Career Pathways for Students (August)
COURSES OPEN THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH
Is your teen anxious about making plans for college and careers? It can be challenging as a parent to provide your student with the guidance and support they need to succeed. Without careful career planning, many will have difficulty choosing a college and major that best suits them. Changing majors can waste their time and effort and your money!
This course is designed to help your teen:
- develop insight into their own unique personality, interests, skills and values through several free, online career assessment (MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, values and skills sorts).
- explore careers and learn how to gain experience in those fields that will set them up for success
- gain clarity about the path they want to take and some clear steps to get there
Over 4 weeks, your teen will complete about 1 1/2 - 2 hours of homework/week and have the option of attending weekly office hours with Amanda via video conference to discuss homework, ask questions about career and college exploration, and receive personalized coaching.
Parents are encouraged to discuss the homework with their students, and a discussion guide will be provided. You will also be emailed a weekly update on your teens progress through the course.

Amanda graduated from college with honors, got her diploma and had absolutely no idea what she was going to do next. Does that sound familiar to any of you? She wound up in a low paying job that didn’t even require a bachelor’s degree. For the next couple years, she barely scraped by on pbjs and prayed her rent checks wouldn’t bounce. How did that happen? Mainly a lack of planning. She studied the subjects she loved in college without any thought about her career destination. Fortunately, after a few years of poverty she wised up and went back to grad school to get her master’s degree in career counseling. She's spent most of her career teaching and guiding students in high school and college settings.
As the mom of a teenager, she has a whole new perspective on career decision-making. Her focus is helping students AND their families map out a plan for career success. Guiding your kids as they start making big decisions about college and careers can be really stressful. It’s a big investment for them AND for you and a lot is riding on it. Many times kids are not so enthusiastic about discussing this with you.
This is where Amanda comes in. She uses career assessments to help students understand their own unique personality, interests, skills and values. Once they have their results, they can begin selecting some careers to research. She walks them through the process of career research so they can make informed and purposeful choices about the fields they might want to pursue. Then a plan of action is made for gaining experience and making college choices. This provides a great base of information for ALL OF YOU to discuss together. It’s Amanda's job to make it easier for you to have these conversations.
Amanda's passion is helping students make intentional choices that will lead them to successful and fulfilling careers. That’s what she wants for her kids and knows it’s what you want for yours too. She’d love to support you along this journey. Sign up for our email list to receive valuable tips, resources and guidance as you navigate this process as a family. Please reach out to her at the email below if you have any questions or would like to schedule a call to discuss how she can partner with you to guide your student toward career success.
